Petit Domaine Rubaiyat 2023 (750 ml)

2023 Petit Domaine Rubaiyat
Red Wine Cuvée · Medium-bodied · GI Yamanashi · Merlot, Petit Verdot & Harmo Noir · Vintage 2023

Brief Description

Limited Japanese red wine cuvée from Katsunuma. Merlot, Petit Verdot and the Harmo Noir grape variety developed in Yamanashi mature for 14 months in oak barrels. Ripe fruit, fine roasted aromas, forest floor, and a long finish of dark chocolate characterize this elegant wine.

Origin & Style

Marufuji produces its Domaine wines from selected vineyards around Katsunuma. The climatically favorable 2023 vintage combines the richness of Merlot with the spice and structure of Petit Verdot. Harmo Noir – a Japanese cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Zweigelt – adds color depth and tannin.

  • 68% Merlot
  • 28% Petit Verdot
  • 4% Harmo Noir
  • Grapes from Katsunuma, Yamanashi Prefecture
  • 14 months barrel aging, 29% new wood content
  • Limited production of only 1,064 bottles

Aroma Profile

  • Ripe fruits
  • Roasted aromas from oak barrels
  • Forest floor and autumnal leaves
  • Dark chocolate in the long finish

Palate: Smooth and expansive, with ripe fruit, balanced structure, and a long, subtly bitter finish.

Serving Recommendation

  • Temperature: 16–18 °C
  • Aeration: about 30 minutes in a decanter or a large red wine glass
  • Pairs with: Beef tataki, roast beef, grilled spare ribs and – traditionally Japanese – basashi

Why this wine is with us

This cuvée, limited to only 1,064 bottles, combines Marufuji's traditional work with European grape varieties and a distinctive Japanese character. The small proportion of Harmo Noir, in particular, makes the wine an exciting expression of modern wine culture from Yamanashi.
